New Zealand  is on track to building a world class network of cycle trails for us all to explore! The national project has opened several new cycle trails in the past few months, with plenty more on the agenda.

In February 2009 an idea was born to build a network of cycle trails that would provide a healthy and enjoyable way for Kiwis and international visitors to see the country. The New Zealand Cycle Trail has since expanded to include other existing off-road trails that meet the ‘Great Ride’ standard, such as the Otago Central Rail Trail – the ‘original’ Great Ride that in part provided the catalyst for this project.

The trails vary in grades so there are plenty of options for everyone.
