Explore the best of Christchurch in two hours, with a friendly and entertaining local guide leading you at a relaxed pace. You will see the Arts Centre, Cathedral Square, Antigua Boatsheds, Christ’s College, Hagley Park, Riccarton House & Deans Bush, Deans Cottage, Mona Vale Gardens & Fernery and New Regent Street.
Starting in Cathedral Square you are fitted with a bike and helmet. Your friendly guide leads you along the lovely, cobbled Worcester Boulevard to the Arts Centre.
Next stop is the historic Antigua Boatsheds on the River Avon. You pedal alongside the English style punt, loop back past Christ’s College, beside the Botanic Gardens and into Hagley Park, also known as the green heart of Christchurch. Enjoy biking on the traffic free cycle-ways with plenty of open space and fresh air.
After heading out of the park your guide takes you through the suburb of Riccarton where you see typical Christchurch houses and schools. Enjoy a stop for approximately fifteen minutes at the lovely homestead of Riccarton House and the historic Deans Cottage. There is a tale or two to be told here before your guide takes you for a short walk through a precious piece of virgin New Zealand bush with rare Kahikatea trees. You may even catch a glimpse of a native Fantail. You will quickly forget that you are still in the city!
Next stop is Mona Vale, a beautiful estate with sculptured gardens, a lovely homestead, a fernery and rose gardens, as well as two gatehouses. You have a good clear view into some of the grounds of the most expensive houses in Christchurch.
The final stretch of the tour takes you through the very green and leafy Little Hagley Park, Victoria Square and then to New Regent Street. This colourful little pedestrian-only street (except for cyclists of course!) is filled with antique stores and cafes.
Now it’s just a short cycle back to Cathedral Square to put the bikes away, bid your farewells to the group and reflect on the enjoyable afternoon you have had!
