One of the highlights in next year’s line up will be ASB Classical Sparks in North Hagley Park on Saturday 5 February. There will be special guests making a grand entrance, 66 members of the Christchurch Symphony Orchestra entertaining young and old, and a choreographed fireworks display to a sensational 70’s classic rock number to finish off the night with a bang.
In addition to the main events, there will be a number of community Summer in the Suburbs events, including activities in local parks and streets across the city.
The World Buskers Festival will also be hitting the streets of Christchurch from 20 to 30 January and the Ellerslie International Flower Show from 9 to 13 March at North Hagley Park.

When: December 2010 - 20th February 2010
Where: Canterbury Museum
Don’t miss this remarkable exhibition of early Antarctic photography. Herbert George Ponting’s extraordinary images record Scott’s Terra Nova expedition of 1910 – 1913 and Frank Hurley’s dramatic icescapes were taken during Ernest Shackleton’s polar expedition on Endurance in 1914-16.
Presented to King George V and today part of the Royal Photograph Collection, these images are among the finest examples of the artists’ work in existence. Canterbury Museum is the only venue for this exhibition outside the Queen’s galleries.
Antarctic artefacts from Canterbury Museum’s collection complement the photographs, along with a small display of memorabilia that celebrates the special links between the royal family and Canterbury.
