Fun for the whole family, the Royal New Zealand Ballet’s version of The Nutcracker takes the Christmas classic and adds a twist. Based on one of the world’s most-loved ballets, this colourful and fun version is a sprinkling of festive fun for everyone.
“It’s a wild adventure set to Tchaikovsky’s fabulous and timeless score,” Choreographer and RNZB’s Artistic Director, Gary Harris.
The adventure begins on Christmas morning when Clara’s rat-bag brother, Fritz, clouts her over the head with her beloved nutcracker doll. Delirious with concussion, Clara is rushed to hospital where she enters a fantasy world brought to life by Kristian Fredrikson’s eye-popping, bold designs inspired by Hollywood’s big studio era.
Featuring the Christchurch Symphony Orchestra.

On November 20th, 2010, a new 64km mountain bike track will be opened at St James Conservation Area. This is part of Prime Minister John Key's promised national chain of cycleways. All good keen bikers are invited to come and give it a try.
The track is 25km of shingle to the top end of the cycleway at Maling Pass. The first part of the St James trail is classified grade 3 - "occasional steep slopes and loose gravel". The middle section is grade 4 - "most riders will find some sections easier to walk".
This area is a snapshot of Canterbury highlights: Flat, glacier- carved terraces, steep snow-capped ranges, dark beech forests, glinting streams and marbled torrents. Wild pigs filtering in and out of the bushline, chamois skittering across the upper scree and huge, fat brown trout lazing in unfished pools.
The track has been open to hikers for years but now mountain bikers are going to be given the opportunity to explore this great area.

Astounding in their realism and emotional power, Ron Mueck's works have made him one of the most renowned sculptors of our time.
The Christchurch Art Gallery is proud to present a major exhibition of work by internationally renowned sculptor Ron Mueck. Ranging from the startlingly huge Wild man to the miniscule Two women, this comprehensive exhibition of work by the Australian-born, London-based artist is the largest to have been presented in the southern hemisphere – and an opportunity not to be missed.
The show includes four striking new works alongside many of the artist's iconic sculptures, including the monumental and moving Pregnant woman, and Christchurch is the only place you can see it.
This is a National Gallery of Victoria touring exhibition.
