1. Looking for the best coffee in Christchurch?... C1 Espresso on the High Street/Popular Lane...
2. Freshly made organic crumpets at the Crumpet Club on Durham Street is a great brunch treat. They have lots of sweet and savory options for toppings.
3. Christchurch has several pubs and bars. Two that shouldn't be missed are the Twisted Hop in Poplar Lane - they brew their own beer, and the Dux de Lux who brew organic beer including Ginger Tom, which is a great beer for the ladies.
4. 1950's cupcakes... Yum! The Cupcake Parlour on Victoria Street... they look too good to eat!

Early on Saturday, September 7, 1850, the first ship, the Charlotte Jane, departed Plymouth Sound, England. The Randolph followed a few hours later, and late on Saturday night the Cressy left. The Sir George Seymour departed the following day about 11am. The exact number of passengers on board the ships is not known; surgeons’ lists and shipping lists do not match, and some young children were not counted....
The Christchurch Press have produced a fantastic research project on the first four ships and information can be found on their website http://www.firstfourships.co.nz/index.php

Time is running out for fans to buy individual match tickets to next year's rugby World Cup, with the second phase ballot closing at 5pm on Friday 8th of October 2010.
Rugby World Cup 2011 chief executive Martin Snedden said it would also be the last chance to enter the ballots for tickets to the semifinals and final.
Fans will find out whether they have been successful or not in those ballots in mid-February next year. Successful ticket application for other games will be confirmed via email later this month.
Approximately 400,000 individual tickets have been made available for phase two for all matches, except the semi-finals and the final.
In phase one - which ended in May this year - fans from 85 countries bought 503,000 tickets worth $76 million.
Mr Snedden said demand for tickets had been as expected: "The volume of applications has been in line with our expectations, with strong interest from overseas-based fans continuing."
There had been strong demand for tickets to some matches at Eden Park, and the quarterfinals in Wellington and Christchurch where there was limited availability, he said.

The free concert, in Christchurch's Hagley Park on October 23, is shaping up to be the biggest free concert ever staged in New Zealand.
Some of New Zealand's best-loved bands and solo artists are coming together to entertain Cantabrians following the earthquake and subsequent aftershocks that continue to shake the region.
Canterbury stalwarts The Exponents are specially reforming for the event. Their song, Christchurch (In Cashel St. I Wait), is the theme song of the concert. They'll be joined by Opshop, The Feelers, Minuit, Clap Clap Riot, Midnight Youth, Ivy Lies and The Bats.
The star-studded line up also includes Bic Runga, Dave Dobbyn, J.Williams, Che Fu, and Dane Rumble plus Julia Deans, King Kapisi and Nathan King.
Two of the biggest artists who started their careers in Christchurch over 40- years-ago - Ray Columbus and Dinah Lee - are returning to reprise their hits. A total of 31 acts will be taking to the stage on Saturday October 23. The full day of music and entertainment starts at 11am and finishes at 8pm.
See you there!
