Gourmet Treats on Mother's Day! 
Christchurch Bike Tours have organised a special 'Gourmet Bike Tour' for Mother's Day on Sunday the 9th of May 2010.

The four-hour "Mother's Day" tour departs from Cathedral Square at 10am and includes a sampling of some of Canterbury’s finest culinary delights. A fascinating guide, bike hire and helmet is also included.

The finale of the tour is a three-course tasting lunch at an outstanding and elegant restaurant situated in the picturesque Botanic Gardens. The restaurant has its very own fruit and vegetable garden and is run under the principles of environmental sustainability.

Christchurch is the cycling capital of New Zealand 
Christchurch has been confirmed as the cycling capital of New Zealand after a month-long challenge.

About 100 Christchurch organisations took part in last month's Bike Wise Challenge, clocking up about 450,000 kilometres.

Kaikoura Whale Watch Wins Award 
Kaikoura Whale Watch won the supreme prize at the Responsible Tourism Awards in London recently, after taking top honours in the "best in a marine environment" category. The awards are described as the ‘Oscars’ of responsible tourism.

During whale watch tours, boats will also encounter New Zealand fur seals, pods of dusky dolphins and the endangered wandering albatross.

Whale Watch Kaikoura was one of 35 organisations shortlisted for the honours and among hundreds throughout the world nominated for these prestigious awards.

Christchurch is the gateway to the South Island and only 2.5 hours by car. A great way to get your bearings on Christchurch when you fly in is to take a quick guided bike tour of the city on the two hour city bike tour.
